Message from the Dean
THEN HE SAID TO HIS DISCIPLES, “THE HARVEST TRULY IS PLENTIFUL, BUT THE LABORERS ARE FEW. THEREFORE PRAY THE LORD OF THE HARVEST TO SEND OUT LABORERS INTO HIS HARVEST.”
PRAYER DOES NOT FIT US FOR THE GREATER WORKS; PRAYER IS THE GREATER WORK.
(MY UTMOST FOR HIS HIGHEST, OSWALD CHAMBERS)
DEAR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS,
THE KEY WORD IN THIS VERSE IS PRAY. JESUS IS TEACHING HIS DISCIPLES TO LOOK TO HIM IN PRAYER FOR GUIDANCE AND DIRECTION. MY HOPE IS THAT YOU HAVE BEEN MOVED THROUGH YOUR PRAYERS TO CONSIDER THIS DECISION TO ATTEND SEMINARY AND THAT YOU WILL CONTINUE TO USE PRAYER TO DISCERN HIS WILL IN ALL YOU DO.
I WOULD LIKE TO EXTEND WARM GREETINGS TO YOU FROM THE ALASKA BIBLE SEMINARY. I HOPE THIS CATALOG WILL HELP YOU AS YOU CONTINUE YOUR WALK WITH GOD. THE GOAL OF THE SEMINARY IS TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A CHRISTIAN ENVIRONMENT THAT WILL ALLOW YOU TO DISCERN YOUR PERSONAL CALL FROM GOD. THE EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS OFFERED WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING AND KNOWLEDGE OF GOD’S WORD AND PREPARES YOU FOR CHRISTIAN SERVICE. OUR HOPE IS THAT GOD’S WORD BECOMES THE FOUNDATION FOR YOUR LIFE AND PERSONAL GROWTH. YOUR DAILY WALK WITH JESUS WILL BECOME A VISIBLE TESTIMONY OF YOUR EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE.
THE SEMINARY EXISTS TO “EQUIP CHURCH LEADERS IN ALASKA AND BEYOND”. OUR MISSION STATEMENT LEADS US IN EVERYTHING WE DO. THE SEMINARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND I HAVE WORKED TOGETHER TO DEVELOP A CHRISTIAN LEADERSHIP CERTIFICATION PROGRAM AS OUR CORE OFFERING. THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED BIBLICAL EDUCATION FOR ANY CHURCH LEADER. ANY STUDENT CALLED TO PASTORAL LEADERSHIP WILL CONTINUE THEIR EDUCATION AND ENROLL IN THE PASTORAL CERTIFICATION PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM WILL PROVIDE ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING TO PREPARE STUDENTS SPECIFICALLY FOR A CALL TO PASTORAL LEADERSHIP. THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND I CONTINUE TO PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER OTHER AREAS OF STUDY AND MAY OFFER OTHER CERTIFICATION OPPORTUNITIES IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
IT IS OUR GOAL TO PROVIDE AS MANY EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES AS POSSIBLE TO ALLOW STUDENTS TO ATTEND AND COMPLETE THEIR EDUCATION. WE HOPE THAT THE ENCLOSED INFORMATION CLEARLY SHOWS OUR BIBLICAL FOCUS AND OUR ATTEMPT TO MAKE ATTENDANCE POSSIBLE FOR ALL.
GOD CALLS EACH OF US AND WE ALL NEED TO DISCERN HIS CALL. I ENCOURAGE YOU TO READ AND REVIEW THIS CATALOG AND PRAY THAT IT WILL HELP YOU IN THIS DISCERNMENT PROCESS. I OFFER YOU MY PERSONAL PRAYERS OF SUPPORT AS YOU PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER ATTENDING SEMINARY. THE BOARD AND I ARE COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING YOU IN ANY WAY WE CAN.
The Alaska Bible Seminary is called in faith to serve humanity by proclaiming the “Gospel of Jesus Christ”. We believe the Triune God, as revealed in the Old and New Testaments, is the only source for life and salvation. Scripture is the sole standard of our doctrine and faith; therefore these fundamental biblical principles form the foundation for the work of the Alaska Bible Seminary. We accept as truth that salvation is by grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ.
The Seminary is a non-denominational institution and has an open enrollment policy. Any conservative Christian is welcome to attend and will benefit from the education taught at the Seminary. The following statements expand on our Doctrinal Statement and further explain our beliefs.
The Alaska Bible Seminary believes and teaches:
- The Triune God; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- The inerrancy and authority of Scripture.
- The substitutionary atonement and the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- That salvation is through faith alone in Christ alone.
- The human race is spiritually lost.
- The full deity and humanity of Christ.
- The imminent physical return of Christ.
Please note: The Alaska Bible Seminary (ABS) distinguishes between spiritual gifts distributed to believers to equip them for ministry and the “sign gifts” which are understood to have been manifestations of the Holy Spirit to authenticate the messenger and the gospel message during the foundational period of the church. (See Acts 2) Thus the Alaska Bible Seminary does not consider “sign gifts” as normative for the church today. Therefore speaking in unknown tongues in public or private worship contradicts biblical teaching. While the position of ABS is not meant to be a test of fellowship with those whose traditions differ, members of ABS will not practice or publicize practices at variance with ABS’s stated position.
